Spatial transcriptomics of human sebaceous gland hyperplasia
Version 1

The lipid-secreting sebaceous glands (SG) are indispensable for maintaining skin structure and function, and may influence whole body’s energy metabolism. SG deregulation is also associated with a number of skin disorders, including but not limited to acne. Here, we exploit the high cellular resolution provided by sebaceous hyperplasia to spatially characterize the human SG transcriptional program. By integrating single-cell spatial transcriptomics, pseudotime analysis, RNA velocity, and functional enrichment, we provide the first spatial portrait of the sebaceous transcriptional landscape. Our data, complemented by an open searchable web browser, deliver attractive starting points for experimentally addressing novel candidates regulating SG homeostasis in health and disease.
